
Ed Polgardy
Ed Polgardy, president of Black Hat Magic Productions, is an acclaimed comic book creator-writer-editor, an Emmy-Award-winning television producer-director, and a successful feature film writer-producer-director.
Polgardy co-created the internationally acclaimed hit comic book series âFrom The Darknessâ and âFrom The Darkness: Blood Vowsâ, and wrote the graphic novel adaptation of Quentin Tarantino's âFrom Dusk 'Til Dawnâ. As Senior Editor at Jim Shooter's Defiant Comics, he developed, wrote, and edited several hit titles, including âThe Good Guysâ and âDark Dominionâ (penciled by âSpider-Manâ co-creator Steve Ditko). Polgardy also held the Editor-in-Chief position at BIG Entertainment where he worked with
celebrity concept creators John Jakes, Mickey Spillane, Tom Clancy, and Neil Gaiman. The resulting intellectual properties were licensed to Miramax, Alliance Entertainment, and ABC TV.
Polgardyâs TV work includes producing and directing: âTodayâs Environmentâ, starring Ed Begley, Jr., âMillenniumâ, hosted by Peter Weller, âThe Best of Wine and Foodâ, featuring George Hamilton, â.COMâ and â.COM Kidsâ, starring Mark Hamill, âElegance with Ivanaâ, featuring Ivana Trump, âWomen in Chargeâ, with Nancy Glass, âFirst Priorityâ, hosted by Hunter Tylo, âHealthy Solutionsâ, starring Mariette Hartley, and âMonsteramaâ, featuring Cassandra âElviraâ Peterson. Polgardy also helped create Price/Parker, a television production company where he developed, produced, and directed âIdentityâ, a female-empowerment show that aired on The Learning Channel. Moving into fictional programming, Polgardy produced âOh Jerome, Noâ (starring Mamoudou Athie, Natasha Lyonne, and Georgina Campbell), a short-form television seriesâeight 12-minute episodesâthat aired on âCakeâ on Fox's FXX Network.
As a screenwriter, Polgardy has had a number of his feature film scripts optioned and green-lit for production. Polgardy produced the motion pictures âMasked Mutilatorâ (featuring Brick Bronsky, Glenn Hetrick, and James DeBello), which he also co-wrote, âThe Halfway Houseâ (starring cult-film icon
Mary Woronov), âThe Ghostmakerâ (starring Aaron Dean Eisenberg), âWindow Of Opportunityâ (with producing partner John Densmore, legendary rock-ânâ-roll drummer from The Doors), âDark Desireâ (featuring Kelly Lynch and Michael Nouri), âMegachurch Murderâ (starring Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Corbin Bleu and Romeo Miller), and âThe Wretchedâ (featuring John-Paul Howard, Piper Curda, Kevin Bigley, and Azie Tesfai), which was number one at the U.S. box office for five weeks straight in 2020.
He line produced âBoiler Makerâ (starring John Savage), and co-produced âLaid to Restâ (featuring Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker). As a second unit director, Polgardy worked on âDeathâs Doorâ, âLaid to Restâ, âDark Houseâ, âThe Ghostmakerâ and âThe Wretchedâ.
